More about The PICTORIAL CONTINUUM and ZUKMAR. "The reality which some artistic thought is seeking can be expressed in mathematical terms, mathematics being a more precise and definite kind of thinking of which we are capable. The significance of this idea for developing images in the arts through the computational power of computers is immense". A reformulated twist on Plato's scientific opinion. Originally conceptualized and developed in 1990 by Professor W.Zuk and computer artist P.Marcano, the Pictorial Continuum has evolved over the years even as computers themselves have become more sophisticated. The program was designed as a tool for advanced computational art, resulting in the creation of a series of continuously transforming pictures derived from nearly any source image. Our program is designed specifically for digital photo or photos of art and incorporates a definitive set of creative pictorial strategies which can either be manually selected or set to an AutoMode allowing the computer to make its own choices. These strategies are the central engine that drives the program and while they have in theory been used by artists for centuries in the creation of art, never have they been used in such a comprehensive way and with such computational speed. Users are quickly taken into the heart of a spontaneous artistic process where they can choose strategies that generate new imagery 'on the fly'. Consequently, the door is opened to instantaneous results with simple keyboard interactions producing radically altered images. A single session is often filled with incredible results and serendipitous surprises which can easily be saved in a number of image formats. Advanced users can delete or add their own customized elements inevitably allowing for the creation of images that reflect their unique, individual expression.
